RMPB aims to make music, build harmonious connections, and support our diverse queer community.
Rocky Mountain Pride Bands (RMPB) was founded in September 2023 by Leah Phillips, Sophia Carbajal, Micah Chiapputi, and Liz Meyer and was publicly launched with its first rehearsal on February 7, 2024 with 11 musicians. Our founding Artistic Advisor, Chris Hankins, led our very first performance at Boulder Pride on June 30, 2024. Our inaugural season will be celebrated with our first concert, “New Beginnings” with Artistic Advisor, Dan Pinkston, on November 16, 2024.
We are a Colorado-based community band that aims to build a musical collective that is a safe space to foster queer joy and collective liberation. We want to build something different so as to promote a community of inclusion, transparency, healing, and empowerment that flattens hierarchies and disrupts traditional organizational structures. As such we encourage members to join if you want to be a part of building a different kind of queer musical community.
We do not plan to have elected officers, traditional voting, or systems that allow only a small number of people to make non-transparent decisions about the music, performances, and goals of RMPB. We plan to make decisions using consensus-based decision making rather than majority voting. We are putting together an advisory board that works in partnership with the leadership council and the artistic staff to ensure we uphold these values consistently and transparently.
